Internship

August 28th - December 20th Internship

Position

The GLO interns will report directly to the Executive Director. The interns will assist in activities related to GLO program management, volunteer management, community engagement, program creation and marketing. The intern will gain an understanding of the way our organization impacts Springfield and the greater Ozarks community and how daily operations run. The intern will have opportunities to join/assist committees within the organization as well. This is a paid position. Two of the selected interns will serve our committees primarily and fill in with office duties. This includes monthly attendance of meetings and assisting with projects, events, and fundraising. Committees interested in interns include Fundraising and Programming.

Hours

The internship requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week, including required scheduled times on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The remaining hours are semi-flexible and can be scheduled within our hours of operation, which are from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Additionally, there may be opportunities for remote work and occasional out of center engagements. For interns selected for committees, hours will be determined in collaboration with the committee they are on. These interns will still be scheduled to work Saturdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm with the in-office interns.

Duration & Compensation

This internship will run from Monday, August 28th to Wednesday, December 20th 2023. A $1200 stipend will be awarded to each intern for their dedication and contributions to The GLO Center’s mission, $600 will be given at the halfway point and the remaining half at completion of the internship. During midterm and final exam weeks, interns will have the option to take time off to focus on their academic responsibilities. We will be closed for Labor Day, Thanksgiving/National Day of Mourning, and Friday following Thanksgiving/National Day of Mourning.

Responsibilites

  • Daily Center Operations Support:
    • Assist the Executive Director in managing the day-to-day activities of the center.
    • Provide administrative support, including handling emails, phone calls, and scheduling.
    • Collaborate with staff members to ensure efficient operations and maintain a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
  • Event Planning Assistance:
    • Work closely with the Executive Director to plan and organize various events, workshops, and programs.
    • Assist in coordinating event logistics, such as venue selection, vendor coordination, and equipment arrangements.
    • Help with event promotion and outreach to attract diverse participants and engage the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Participate in outreach efforts to connect with local organizations, sponsors, and community partners.
    • Collaborate with the board of The Glo Center to align event planning and operations with the organization’s vision and goals.
    • Establish connections and maintain relationships with other local non-profits to foster collaboration and support shared initiatives.
  • Committee Involvement:
    • Two interns will be selected to serve on committees – one on fundraising and the other on programming.
    • These interns will primarily report to their respective committees but may also assist the Executive Director with office tasks from time to time.
  • Hosting an Event:
    • All interns will be given the opportunity to host an event at The Glo Center during their internship.
    • Each intern will be provided with a small budget to plan and execute their event, fostering creativity and leadership skills.

  • Self-discipline and time-management skills needed to work independently  
  • Dependable and punctual team player  
  • Good verbal and written communication skills  
  • Ability to work with the public in a professional manner
  • Commitment to advocating for intersectionality within the LGBT+ community
  • Familiarity with Google Docs, Forms, and Sheets
  • Attendance of center events 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must pass background check

The specific details of the internship may vary, and the intern may be assigned additional responsibilities to support the organization’s ever evolving needs.

Pride in the Park: An LGBTQIA+ History Celebration

What: A celebration for LGBTQIA+ History Month in October. We’re excited to bring you a brand-new event to commemorate our community’s history and achievements!
When: Saturday, October 28, 11am – 3pm
Where: Phelps Grove Park

Rainbow Kids - Trunk or Treat

What: Wear your costumes and get candy! This event is for LGBTQ+ kiddos aged 5-11, accompanied by a grownup. Friends ages 5-11 and siblings of any age are also welcome.
